Fire In The Hole

Okay, okay... a little rough a title for this blog entry, but I clearly needed to express the subtle discomfort of the Col-Scope preparation in a humorous way.  Low residue diet has started, and I am becoming more and more anxious to get this procedure over with and obtain feedback from the lovely and talented Dr. Flier about my current flare.

It's a Low Res kinda day.  Given that I have a specific list of foods to avoid before Friday's 'Look-See', I should be alright in choosing just what to nosh.

 Tomorrow I start the Magnesium Citrate prep.

Like I mentioned in a recent post, I remember it tasting salty.  Here's a copy of the exact instructions for the last day of prep with Magnesium Citrate, and what to expect from your tummy.  Your doctor will usually send this to you via email or snail mail, immediately after scheduling your procedure, so that you'll have enough time to read over what you are in for.

Magnesium Citrate prep for  your colonoscopy
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
§   The day before your colonoscopy
´   Begin a clear liquid diet.  Clear liquids include water, broth, Jell-O, Gatorade, Sprite, and clear juices. Do not use any products with red or pink dye. (Cranberry juice is okay.) No coffee, milk, or other dairy products.                                                        Over à
´   Be sure to drink plenty of clear liquids throughout the day. You should be on a clear liquid diet all day, beginning at breakfast.
´   7 pm - Magnesium Citrate dose #1: At 7 pm, drink 1 ½ bottles of Magnesium Citrate (15oz.).
´   Within the next 2 hours drink at least three, 8-ounce glasses of clear liquids.
´   When you begin to have diarrhea, Vaseline jelly may be used around the outside of your rectum after each bowel movement to help prevent irritation. The use of baby wipes instead of toilet paper might also help irritation.
´   If you have diabetes , please contact the doctor who manages your diabetes for advice regarding any changes that could be needed in your diabetes medicine the day before and the day of your colonoscopy.
´   NOTE: If you develop nausea when drinking the Magnesium Citrate, add ice cubes to chill the solution and drink it through a straw.
§     Completing your prep
§  5 hours before your scheduled appointment timeTake Magnesium Citrate dose #2: Drink 1 ½ bottles of Magnesium Citrate (15oz.). Note: Even though your stools may become clear after the first dose of Magnesium Citrate, it is absolutely essential that you take the full second dose otherwise your prep may not be adequate for the examination.
§  Within the next 1 hour drink at least three, 8-ounce glasses of clear liquids.
§  For those of you with a morning procedure, we realize it is inconvenient to wake up in the middle of the night to take the second does of Magnesium Citrate. However, we have found this method results in the cleanest colon and the best chance for a successful examination.
 At that point you're already half way there, just stick with the plan and it will be over before you know it.  If this procedure was ordered, it was for good reason.
[Don't be such a Guppy]
I'm not exactly amped about this, but it IS the next step in being in tune with my bod.
Bring it, I say.  I'll post more after I start this process, and give details of what I experience.  And you can bet your bottom I'm stocking up on blue jello in the morning.
