Adventures in Colonoscopy Prep

This Friday, I am having a Colonoscopy done to take a look at what's going on during this very recent flare of my Crohn's Disease.  From my previous posts, and general generosity of information about my insides, most of you probably already know that what I report to you may be graphic in nature.  I am thanking you in advance for reading and expressing concern in my trials and tribulations in Irritable Bowel Disease.  The Procedure itself isn't too bad, though it has been a number of years since my last one.  I can only assume that in such a great amount of time that it as been made to feel even more comfy these days, so I am not as scared as I was for the first go-round.

I am starting a Low Residue Diet on Wednesday.  This is to prepare my body for the scope by making things easier to digest and avoiding any bowel irritation before the pictures are taken.  I am basically avoiding raw veggies [because they can be tough, or fibrous], and whole grain breads and pastas.  I have been trying the Specific Carbohydrate Diet for the last couple of weeks, which is already quite similar in that I avoid grains and Complex Carbs.  I am still learning a lot about it, but I do love my veggies... so I have been trying lots of new dishes with ingredients that I hadn't actually given the time of day before.  Turns out, most of this stuff is really yummy and fun to try making.  Spaghetti out of Squash??  Time consuming, but fun to find these weird recipes.

You can take a look at the SCDiet here.  [It was formulated by a Mom for her daughter! & This gal knows her stuff...] I'm liking it so far, but we shall see what happens, because as most Crohn's sufferers know, what works this week may not work the next.  Healing is about research, patience, and listening to your body.  Please make sure that if you are taking medications that you do not simply stop them if you think you find a new, crazy diet that might 'fix' things.  I can't stress enough that most of what we do is experimental.  But, the best of luck to you if you'd like to try this diet, too!

By 5:30 on Friday, my procedure will be over, and I will be heading somewhere for deliciousness that I rightfully deserve after the stress of the day.  I will post pictures and give updates as I am preparing during this week, which will include details of using Magnesium Citrate as a preparatory cleanse [That should be fun], and what works best to hide the taste of the actual liquid, which can be salty from what I remember.  Totally ruined Sprite for me.  Not to mention tricky meds that you'd usually take with foods when you're on a liquid diet the day before your procedure, and how to disguise those tastes as well.

Thanks for giving a crap about my guts.
5 days in counting...
Happy Monday!
